Please Note: To share your library, you will need to have an EndNote Online account that is synced with your EndNote Desktop license. For instructions on how to do this, please see the linked FAQ below under "Links & Files."

Sharing your library is useful if you are working on a collaborative project with other EndNote Desktop users. Sharing your EndNote library shares all of your references and groups, as well as any attached files like full text PDFs.

To share your EndNote Desktop library:

  1. With EndNote open, click on File > Share in the menu bar
  2. Enter the email addresses of people you want to share with
  3. Set your Permissions for your library
    1. Read Only access allows collaborators to open the library and use your citations with Cite-While-You-Write, but they cannot add or remove entries
    2. Read & Write access allows collaborators to add and alter citations in your library
  4. Click Invite

Users will receive an email letting them know a library has been shared with them. They will be prompted to either sign in to or set up an EndNote Online account.

Remember, shared libraries can only be opened in EndNote Desktop, but all collaborators will still need an EndNote Online account.
