I-Share is a service that allows SIU Medical Library and 90 other academic libraries in Illinois to share books with each other. If the Medical Library does not own a book you want, we will check if another I-Share library can send the book to you free of cost.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a similar service that allows our users to access materials not available at the Medical Library. It is very similar to I-Share, with the major difference being ILL allows users to request books, book chapters, and articles from other libraries worldwide, not just in Illinois.

Typically, most books will be available in I-Share unless it is a rare title or about a niche topic. View the linked FAQ below to learn how to place I-Share requests. You can make ILL requests for books, book chapters, and articles by using our ILL Request Form.

Please Note: E-books are not requestable either via I-Share or ILL. You cannot be given access to e-books or journals from libraries/institutions you are not affiliated with.
